Host rocks are mainly sedimentary sequences that are assigned to a unit that is transitional between Upper Triassic Skuhini Group and Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group. Near the Beedee showing, plagioclase-hornblende porphyritic rocks have been identified as tuffs or flows (Open File 1991-21) rather than sills (as reported in Assessment Report 19675).

Preliminary prospecting of the Beedee Zone indicated that the auriferous brecciated argillites sampled late in the 1989 field season are related to E-W trending non-porphyritic felsic dikes cutting across a series of argillites, calcareous siltstones and arenites near the base of Beedee Ridge. The source of gold mineralization in the Beedee Zone become clear in 1989 field season when siliceous base metal bearing breccia veins were discovered immediately above the soil anomalies outlined by earlier traverses.

According to Assessment Report 19675 the Beedee showing consists of "tectonic megabreccias" within well-bedded siltstone and greywacke that are intruded by sills of plagioclase-hornblende porphyry. The carbonate-bearing breccias contain pyrite-galena-sphalerite minerlization generally grading less than 300 to 400 parts per billion gold. A zone of more siliceous breccias within pyrite-galena-sphalerite-chalcopyrite mineralization ran up to 5.57 grams per metric tonne gold. Small areas of gold soil anomalies occur downslope (Assessment Report 19675).

Also present are small (less than or equal to one metre wide) lead-zinc-ankerite veins in marl units that have been intruded by plagioclase-hornblende porphyry. No dimensions are reported.

Work History

Granges Inc operated the Unuk River Property from 1989-1991 with further work in 1994. In 1990, work concentrated on priority target areas established in the 1989 program in the Zone 1 area, the "R" Grid (Coul 1) and the Beedee Zone (claims Unuk 18 and Unuk 19). Mapping and resampling in the Beedee Zone Area have indicated that gold mineralization is located in narrow contact aureoles peripheral to what are likely altered mafic dikes.
